Girls Varsity Soccer · Pre-Season Summary

The Spartans head into District play with their strongest pre-season in program history.

In scrimmages against Cy Ridge, Mayde Creek, and Jersey Village, the Spartans came out victorious in 5-1, 5-0, and 3-2 wins, respectively.  In addition, all varsity players were academically eligible with a 100% passing rate.

The Spartans opened gameplay with a match against Morton Ranch.  Despite a few missing key players, the Spartans fought to a 3-2 victory.  Kendal White netted two goals, and Priscilla Silva made a decisive PK under pressure.

Tournament play began the next week in the Waller Tournament.  The Spartans won their pool with an undefeated record.  The opening game over Barber’s Hill was won with a bullet shot from midfielder Yani Garay and yet another decisive PK from Silva.  The Spartans tied their second game of the tournament 1-1 against Salado with a hard-fought goal from White.  In the final game of the tournament, the girls defeated Fulshear 4-0 with goals from White, Silva, Sara Medina, and Alexia Santos — her first goal on the varsity team.  Genesis Guzman kept the shutout.  Match Ball MVPs for the victories were Abril Olivo and Kendal White.

The next week was followed by the competitive Katy I-10 Tournament.  After championship wins the last two of three years, the Spartans were hoping to return to the winner’s circle.  The Spartans dominated the opening game over Klein Forest 9-2 with goals from White, Silva, Medina, Adamari Acosta, and Sofia Salgado.  In the second match, however, the Spartans experienced their first loss to a talented Beaumont Westbrook team, who later went on to win the tournament.  Garay kept the Spartans in the hunt with a terrific goal from distance.  The Spartans played Kempner for 3rd place, easily defeating them 4-1.  Goals were scored by Silva, White, and Medina.

The JV team had an undefeated showing in the I-10 Tournament with big wins over Klein Forest, Mayde Creek, and Aldine.
